Tennis Elbow

What is a tennis elbow?

Lateral epicondylitis or “tennis elbow” is a tendonitis at the elbow of the extensor tendons of the hand. It can emerge through work or certain sports due to repetitive movements of the wrist causing degenerative changes to the tendon.

What are the most common signs and symptoms of tennis elbow?

  • Pain on the outside of the elbow
  • Pain provoked by extension of the wrist
  • Weakness in the forearm and difficulty picking up objects

What causes tennis elbow?

As with all tendonitis, lateral epicondylitis generally appears following repetitive movements. Certain factors predispose you to this specific tendonitis like playing sports which rely on the use of the forearm muscles (racquet sports), a lack of muscle development or certain professions such as painter.
