What is synovitis?

Synovitis is an abnormal increase in the quantity of synovial fluid produced in the capsule of an articulation. Therefore, there is an increase in the intra-articular pressure.  Synovitis can be classified as a form of arthritis and may affect all joints.


What are the most common signs and symptoms of synovitis?

  • Pain in the affected joint
  • Swelling
  • Stiffness in the joint

What causes synovitis?

Synovitis can be linked to an intra-articular infection, a systemic disease or inflammatory arthritis. Unfortunately it can often recur periodically.
