What is arthritis?

Arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the joints and other parts of the body.

The term Arthritis encompasses more than 100 diseases such as; polyarticular rheumatoid arthritis, gout, psoriatic arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and lupus to name just a few.


What are the most common signs and symptoms of arthritis?

  • Pain, swelling and stiffness in one or several joints which increases with a sedentary lifestyle and decreases with physical activity.
  • Morning stiffness in or around the affected joints.
  • Reduction in amplitude of movements.

What causes arthritis?

Arthritis can appear following a trauma, an infection or simply from natural use. It can also appear following onset of an auto-immune disease such as lupus, polyarticular rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia or Behcet’s disease.
