Following this analysis, the occupational therapist may work directly with the child and\/or provide recommendations to the parents or other involved adults to promote their functional ability.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>What is sensory processing?<\/h3>\n<p>Sensory processing is the ability of our brains to process environmental stimuli via our senses: touch, taste, sight, smell, hearing, proprioception and vestibular system; and to react appropriately according to the intensity of the stimulus and the context in which it occurs. Sensory processing allows us to place our attention on the most important stimulus depending to the situation (example: the ability to have a phone conversation in a room where other people are conversing at the same time)<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Most common problems encountered:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Your child refuses to wear his clothes as he experiences discomfort or pain in contacting the fabric<\/li>\n<li>Your child refuses to use a public toilet due to the flushing noise<\/li>\n<li>Your child has difficulty tolerating certain tastes and is selective with food<\/li>\n<li>Your child refuses to use a swing or to swim<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How can we help you?
